WHAT WE DO
The Green Workers Alliance mobilizes renewable energy workers to win more and better jobs in the sector. We provide training and leadership development, assistance with job searches, and advice and support on workplace issues. We are currently focusing our organizing efforts on the 40,000 workers involved in utility-scale solar and wind projects. These workers face job insecurity, low wages and per diems, lack of benefits, and poor safety conditions.

WHY NOW
The renewable energy industry is under assault at the local, state, and federal levels. GWA members are on the front lines of fighting back. They are defending their jobs by speaking up at town halls to win approval of solar projects, lobbying in Congress, and talking to the press. The workers in this industry are a vital voice in defending affordable, clean energy.
As we fight to save this industry, we are also mobilizing workers for better conditions in the field. Members are participating in safety campaigns in the wind industry, working with allies to win improvements in the temp staffing field, and raising public awareness of these issues.

WHO WE ARE
We are a project of PowerSwitch Action, a national network of leading regional advocacy organizations that support innovative solutions to our nation’s economic and environmental problems. More than 1,800 renewable energy workers across the country have joined us, and our leadership organizing committee meets monthly. GWA is a member of the Climate Justice Alliance and collaborates with unions such as LIUNA, the Utility Workers, and IBEW. Our funders include the Ford Foundation, the Nathan Cummings Foundation, the Climate and Clean Energy Equity Fund, the 11th Hour Project, the Freedom Together Foundation, 128 Collective, the Fund to Build Grassroots Power, and the Carmack Collective.
